Nilagang Baboy Recipe

Did you know you can use The Good Meat Pork Sinigang Cut to make Nilagang Baboy?

Pork Nilaga Recipe

When the sky darkens, the air chills, or you simply need a gentle reminder of home, there is nothing that warms the soul quite like a bowl of Nilagang Baboy (Boiled Pork Soup). This beloved Filipino dish is the epitome of simplicity and hearty comfort, a recipe that every home cook—from seasoned cooks to culinary beginners—should have in their repertoire.

The name Nilaga literally translates to “boiled,” perfectly describing the unadulterated cooking method that allows the natural, savory flavor of the pork to shine. Unlike its cousin, Sinigang, which is sour, Nilaga is all about a clear, clean, and deeply satisfying broth.

Tips for Cooking Nilagang Baboy or Pork Nilaga:

  • Customize the Vegetables. While potatoes and pechay are the traditional vegetables used in Nilagang Baboy, feel free to add other vegetables like corn, saba bananas, or green beans for added texture and flavor.

  • Enhance the Broth. For a richer broth, try adding a few beef bones or pork ribs along with the pork cuts.

  • Serve with a Dipping Sauce. Serve Nilagang Baboy with a side of fish sauce or patis mixed with calamansi juice and a dash of chili for an extra kick.
